Silage is the process of fermenting high-moisture and under anaerobic plant products to preserve the product and improve its nutritional value for use as animal feed. The silage product is called silage and the crops used vary with the most common being grass and corn. A prerequisite for silage preparation is the creation of appropriate conditions for the development of anaerobic microorganisms of the green plant mass, which will cause the lactic fermentation. This can be achieved by placing the silage product on:

• Wheat covered with silage films
• Silage bags
• Balls with wrapping film


The white outer layer reflects the heat and prevents overheating of the stored product, while the black layer ensures total opacity which is necessary to maintain the quality and nutritional value of the stored products. Because of their multilayer structure, the leaves have lower gas leakage than single-layer or bilayer films, resulting in better fermentation of the silage and hence improving the quality of the feed. The films are stabilized against ultraviolet (UV) radiation for one year and can be produced in large widths up to 20 meters.

Fine polyethylene film of very high strength and elasticity, suitable for use as an underlay, under the traditional black and white silage film. Purpose of silage is to create appropriate conditions for inducing anaerobic fermentation in corn or other feed. It is therefore important to minimize the penetration of oxygen through the silage film, as well as air between the film and the silage.
Due to the low thickness (35μm) and its high elasticity, the film adheres to the surface of the silage, thus avoiding the formation of air pockets between the film and the silage. The presence of two films (black and white) significantly reduces oxygen permeability, making anaerobic fermentation more effective.
